The Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL) launched an online exhibit, Enslaved People in the Southeast, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first Africans sold into bondage in the English Colonies.
On September 1975, the Child Care Center at Florida International University opened after 2 years filled with surveys, studies, and discussions which stemmed from a community Child Care Planning Conference. The Child Care Center, housed in a trailer on the west side of campus beside the tennis courts, served 45 students ages 2 1/2 to 5 from the FIU and surrounding community. The history of the Child Care Center can be found in the University Archives in press releases, memos, annual reports and FIU student newspaper articles.
Annia González, MLIS, is Special Collections Librarian at the Special Collections and University Archives Department at Florida International University Libraries.
Rhia Rae is the Digital Archivist for Special Collections and University Archives at Florida International University. In this role, she assesses and provides digital preservation and access to unique primary source materials and the University’s historical records (rare books, manuscripts, archives, artifacts, photographs, and audiovisual materials.)
Rhia earned her Master's Degree in Museum Studies at Syracuse University and her Bachelor's Degree in Art History at the University of South Florida.
