The collection was created by Leslie Judd Ahlander. Born in New York City, May 13, 1915, Ahlander studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She worked at the Pan American Union before leaving to become an art critic at the Washington Post, a position she held for over 13 years. Afterwards, she became the Director of Education and eventually became the first Curator of Contemporary Art at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida. Ahlander passed away in her home in Sarasota, Florida, on September 2, 2013.
This collection consists of brochures and general information on various artists from Latin America and the Caribbean Islands donated by the Florida International University Art Museum from Miami Herald art critic Leslie Judd Ahlander. This includes Cuban artist Felippe Abbreu and Argentinean artist Marta Minujin. The area of these artists include Cuba, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Jamaica.
